The Building Owners and Managers Association of Alabama (BOMA Alabama) was established with the primary purposes of: (i) to provide a united body representing the commercial real estate community in related issues; (ii) to maintain and increase the level of professionalism in the real estate industry; and (iii) to keep its membership in tune with current issues concerning the real estate market; regulatory and legislative affairs, trends in marketing or specific building maintenance needs.

The Purpose of BOMA Alabama is to advance the professional ideals and facilitate the concerns of the building owners, managers and associated professionals in the Western New York area.  In order to maximize our members’ ability to positively affect the communities in which they operate we will:

Provide NETWORKING opportunities to develop communication between members as well as access to industry professionals and decision makers the benefit building ownership and operation.

Support EDUCATIONAL programs including professional designation tracks that will enable each member to be a more effective and valuable manager.

Thoughtfully ADVOCATE on behalf of membership to foster the health and growth of our local industry thereby benefiting the community.

Conduct RESEARCH and provide data that assist members in reaching the business objectives of their individual companies and our industry as a whole.

BOMA Alabama is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization serving the advocacy, education and networking needs of commercial real estate professionals in the state of Alabama.

BOMA Alabama is governed by established bylaws. The association is led by the Board of Directors and actively managed by an Executive Director, under the direction of the association President.

 

What We Do

As the leading organization for the commercial real estate profession, BOMA Alabama plays an important public role as a leader and public advocate for the industry. BOMA Alabama's activities are as diverse as the constituency we serve:

  • We conduct regular education programs to enrich our members’ expertise in property management.
  • We produce newsletters and bulletins informing members on matters important to the industry.
  • We send representatives to our national meetings.
  • We engage in governmental legislative lobbying as appropriate.
  • We support professional designation in property management.
  • We provide opportunities for members to build networks and relationships that add to the strength of the industry and the association.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Alabama (BOMA Alabama) is a federated chapter of BOMA International, a worldwide business association designed to promote and represent the interests of commercial office building ownership and management. We represent a diverse community of developers, property owners, building managers, and vendors to the commercial office building industry.

BOMA International represents 92 local associations throughout the United States and 13 affiliates in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finlad, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Russia and South Africa. BOMA's 16,500-plus members own or manage more than nine billion square feet of commercial properties in North America.

BOMA International is a primary source of information on office building development, leasing, building operating costs, energy consumption patterns, local and national building codes, legislation, occupancy statistics and technological developments. With a 100-year history, BOMA is the most influential and effective advocacy, recruitment and training organization for the U.S. commercial real estate industry.

BOMA International's activities include:

  • Monitoring and lobbying on pertinent legislative, regulatory and codes/standards issues, including electricity deregulation, capital gains tax relief, telecommunications, indoor air quality, private property rights, risk assessment, and codes and standards.
  • Publishing The BOMA Magazine, the official publication of BOMA International.
  • Publishing research documents and "how-to" guidebooks, including:
  • Hosting the North American Real Estate Congress and The Office Building Showevery June; conducting seminars on topics including office marketing and leasing, asset management, technology, and security and emergency preparedness planning. In January, BOMA International sponsors a Winter Business Meeting and biannually hosts the National Issues Conference.
  • Presenting The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) and Earth Awards, the most prestigious and coveted awards in the commercial real estate industry. The TOBY award honors buildings demonstrating excellence in building management, operational efficiency, tenant retention, emergency planning and community impact; the Earth Award honors environmentally-friendly buildings.
